The Tourism Industry Association of Ontario (TIAO), along with over 100 of the world’s major travel and global business leaders, have signed a letter by the World Travel & Tourism Council (WTTC) calling for international cooperation to protect and save their industry.
ITO wants to congratulate the TIAO team for their involvement in this momentous action on behalf of the international Travel & Tourism community. As a proud member and partner of TIAO, we have long recognized their unparalleled leadership within the provincial and national tourism landscape. It is therefore not surprising to see them participate in international efforts on behalf of the millions of Canadians and workers around the world who depend on this industry for their livelihoods. The TIAO organization is a progressive leader on many fronts, in particular with their inclusion of Indigenous People in their membership, events, and on their Board. ITO President & CEO Kevin Eshkawkogan currently sits on the Executive Committee of the TIAO Board of Directors.
Beth Potter, TIAO President & CEO, and other industry leaders signed and sent the letter, calling for urgent action, to Prime Minister Justin Trudeau the other Heads of State of the G7 group of countries, as well as Australia, South Korea and Spain. The WTTC has identified four measures which need concerted international framework and leadership to combat the coronavirus and protect the vulnerable sector.
Read more about the letter and the recommended measures in the official press release.
