We hope that you are keeping well. We know that some of you are busy opening up, modifying, and running your operations while some of you are not yet able to do so. We recognize that all our members are still facing residual effects and ongoing challenges as a result of the COVID-19 pandemic. ITO continues to work on your behalf to Preserve, Renew, and Rejuvenate our industry.
Today we want to inform you that ITAC President & CEO Keith Henry will be hosting a webinar to provide an update on the status of the ITAC Stimulus Fund program. The live webinar will be held on Facebook Live tomorrow, Thursday August 6th, at 12:00pm EDT.
The ITAC Stimulus Fund was launched at the end of March to provide financial relief to Indigenous tourism businesses across Canada in the form of grants of up to $25K per applicant. By the April 30th deadline over 600 applications had been received with a total request of $14.4 million.
ITO’s Business Support Broker program played a key role in the submission of 141 applications from Ontario Indigenous tourism operators. On May 14th thefirst phase of successful applicantswas announced including close to 100 Export-Ready businesses for $1.8 million in funds. This group included six Ontario businesses.
On June 11th the Federal government announced an additional $16 million in funds for Indigenous businesses in the tourism sector. Since that time we know many of you have been waiting for subsequent announcements of successful applicants. We encourage you to tune in for the update from ITAC and ask any questions you may have.
