ITO was honoured to present the Weekend for Truth and Reconciliation in Sault Ste. Marie on September 30 & October 1, 2022. The two-day event offered a free, family-oriented showcase of Indigenous arts, culture, and heritage as well as key educational opportunities surrounding Indigenous history and ongoing reconciliation efforts. Attendees were invited to spend the entire weekend in Baawaating with exclusive coupons and promotions provided by participating partners.
The first of the two-day event will be a Commemoration Day focused on the resiliency of Indigenous Peoples, learning about the impact of the residential school system on Indigenous communities, and gaining actionable tools for reconciliation. The evening will conclude with a spectacular Drone Show about Truth and Reconciliation that will be illustrated with over 200 drones over the night sky.
The second day was a Celebration Day, filled with Indigenous food vendors, a vendors marketplace, and a spectacular concert of local talent.
